Certification & Tracking

Every Aetare diamond is independently certified and fully traceable.

This page explains exactly how your diamond is verified, how your personal engraving is recorded, and how your sample is tracked from the moment it leaves your hands to the moment your finished diamond is returned.

Part 1: IGI Certification

The Independent Proof of What You Own

A diamond certificate is not paperwork. It is the only independent proof of exactly what you are buying — assessed by a laboratory with no financial interest in the outcome. Without one, three of the four factors that determine your diamond’s quality and price — clarity, cut, and colour — are completely unverifiable by the untrained eye.

Every Aetare diamond is submitted to the International Gemological Institute (IGI) for independent grading and certification.

What IGI Evaluates

IGI gemologists assess your diamond using the standard 4Cs:

CriteriaWhat It MeasuresHow It Is Assessed
ColourThe whiteness or body tint of the diamond, graded from D (colourless) to Z (yellow tint).Assessed under controlled lighting by trained graders.
ClarityInternal characteristics formed during growth, determining whether the diamond looks clean.Requires 10× magnification and specialist training.
CutThe proportions and symmetry that control brilliance, fire, and sparkle.Evaluated using precision measurement tools.
CaratThe weight of the diamond.Measured with a calibrated scale.

A certificate covers all four Cs, assessed independently and without bias.

The Girdle Inscription — Why It Matters

Every IGI-certified diamond has its unique certificate number laser-inscribed directly onto the girdle — the narrow edge around the widest part of the stone. This microscopic inscription permanently ties that exact diamond to its exact report.

For Aetare diamonds, this inscription includes your chosen 10-digit code, which is officially recorded on the IGI certificate. This creates a permanent, verifiable link between:

  • The physical diamond in your hand.
  • The IGI grading report documenting its characteristics.
  • Your personal engraving, chosen by you.

Anyone with a 10× loupe can verify that the number on the stone matches the number on the report.

Verifying Your IGI Certificate Online

Your IGI certificate can be independently verified through IGI’s official online portal.

  1. Locate your IGI Report Number on your certificate (begins with “LG”).
  2. Visit the IGI verification website at www.igi.org.
  3. Enter your report number to view the full digital report.
  4. Confirm that the inscription(s) listed match your diamond’s girdle.

Your digital report will display:

  • Your diamond’s full 4C grading.
  • Your unique inscription(s), including your 10-digit code.
  • Growth method: HPHT.
  • Any post-growth treatment indications.

Part 2: Tracking & Chain of Custody

Your Sample Never Leaves Our Documented Handling

The memorial diamond industry remains unregulated, and consumers are left to trust the claims made by companies regarding the authenticity and composition of their diamonds. At Aetare, we believe that trust must be earned through transparency.

We maintain a strict chain of custody with unique ID numbers and digital tracking, ensuring your sample, carbon, and diamond are all accounted for at every stage of the journey.

How Our Tracking Works

Step 1: Unique Identification Code

The moment your AETARE Box arrives at our laboratory, your sample is assigned a unique identification code. That code follows your material through every subsequent step — from carbon extraction to diamond growth to final certification — allowing full traceability from hair to finished diamond.

Step 2: Individual Processing

Each Aetare diamond is grown in its own isolated environment. Your sample is never batched with any other client’s material. Your diamond is grown from your carbon alone.

Step 3: Digital Record

Every step of your diamond’s journey is digitally recorded and stored for you. This includes:

  • Date and time of sample arrival.
  • Carbon extraction and purification records.
  • Growth chamber entry and exit dates.
  • Cutting and polishing records.
  • IGI submission and certification dates.
  • Engraving verification.

Step 4: Progress Updates

You will receive updates at every major milestone, so you are never left wondering what is happening with your diamond.

Part 3: Your Certification Package

When your Aetare diamond is delivered, you will receive:

What Happens If Something Goes Wrong

We understand that your sample is irreplaceable. If, during processing, the extracted carbon is insufficient to produce your chosen diamond specification, we will contact you immediately to discuss options:

  • Adjusting the diamond specification (e.g., smaller carat weight).
  • Supplementing with a controlled carbon source to achieve the desired result.

We will never proceed with a substitution without your explicit consent.

A Final Word on Trust

The memorial diamond industry has faced criticism for unverifiable claims and misleading practices. We believe that transparency is not optional — it is essential.

Every Aetare diamond is:

  • Independently certified by IGI.
  • Laser-inscribed with a unique code that links the physical stone to its official report.
  • Documented through a complete chain of custody.
  • Grown in isolation — never batched or mixed.
  • Verifiable by you, at any time, through IGI’s public verification system.

Your trust is the foundation of everything we do. We will never ask you to take our word for it. We will give you the tools to verify it yourself.

Care & Maintenance

Caring for Your Aetare Diamond

Your diamond is meant to be worn. It should catch the light at dinner, rest against your hand as you write, and be noticed by the people you love. But there are moments when the kindest thing you can do is take it off. A simple habit protects everything: put your jewellery on last when you dress, and take it off first at night.

Keeping It Brilliant

A diamond does not lose its sparkle. What happens is simpler than that — it collects a thin film of oil, lotion, and soap residue, mostly on the underside of the stone, and that film softens the light it returns to you.

The fix takes ten minutes! Fill a small bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap. Let your jewellery soak for ten to fifteen minutes. Then brush it gently with a soft toothbrush — a baby toothbrush works beautifully — paying attention to the back of the diamond and the space behind the prongs, where residue gathers unnoticed. Rinse under warm running water, with a strainer over the drain, then pat it dry with a soft cloth and buff the metal gently.

Do this every few weeks for pieces you wear daily, and less often for pieces you save for occasions. Your diamond will reward you for it.

What you should never use is just as important: bleach, chlorine, ammonia, toothpaste, or anything abrasive. All of them damage metal, settings, or both.

Where It Lives

Give your Aetare piece a place of its own. Diamonds are the hardest substance on earth, which means they will happily scratch everything else in your jewellery box — and each other.

Keep each piece in its own soft pouch or lined compartment. Your original Aetare presentation box is designed for exactly this, and it remains the best home for your diamond when you are not wearing it. Choose somewhere dry and cool, away from the humidity of a bathroom, and fasten chains before you put them away so they do not tangle.

When you travel, carry your jewellery with you rather than packing it in checked luggage. A small travel case with individual compartments will protect it and keep it from going missing.

Your Inscription

Your unique ten-digit code is laser-engraved on the girdle of your diamond and recorded on your IGI certificate. It is the permanent link between the stone in your hand and the certification that proves what it is.

That link can be broken. Polishing or recutting the diamond will remove the inscription, and with it the connection to its certificate.

So whenever a jeweller works on your piece, tell them plainly: “This diamond has a certified inscription on the girdle. Please do not polish or alter it."

For the same reason, we advise against ever re-polishing or recutting an Aetare diamond. If your stone has become dull or damaged, speak to us first — there is almost always a better answer.

Your Certificate

Your IGI certificate and Chain of Custody document are as important as the diamond itself. They are the independent record of what your diamond is and where it came from.

Keep them flat and dry, ideally in a safe. Do not laminate them. Take a photograph or scan of each, store the copies somewhere you will not lose them, and make a note of your IGI Report Number — with that number you can always retrieve your report at www.igi.org, even if the paper is gone.

If you ever gift or sell your Aetare diamond, send the documents with it. A diamond separated from its certification loses both value and provenance.

Professional Care

We recommend a professional inspection every six to twelve months for pieces you wear often. A good jeweller will check the setting, tighten or re-tip prongs where needed, clean the piece properly, and confirm your inscription is still intact.

Choose someone reputable, ideally with experience in lab-grown diamonds, and be clear about the inscription before any work begins. Ask for the diamond to be inspected in front of you when you collect it.

We offer one complimentary resizing within thirty days of delivery, for adjustments of up to one size. Please speak to us before arranging any work with a third party, as outside repairs may affect your warranty.

If You Are Ever Unsure

Some jewellery advice online is written for diamonds in general and does not account for certified inscriptions, specific settings, or the particular piece in front of you.

If you are unsure whether something is safe, just ask us. We would far rather answer a question than repair a problem.

For details on certification, traceability, and how to verify your diamond, please see our Certification & Tracking page.
